Invitation
for Membership
The Board of Directors, Supervisor and
Secretary-Treasurer of the Fort Cow Calf Co-op Association would like to
invite individuals who would like to finance bred heifers, bred cows,
cow-calf pairs or heifer calves to apply for membership with the Fort Cow
Calf Co-op Association. If you are thinking about increasing or forming a
herd, this is an excellent way to get started. Should you be interested,
please contact Harry Jacula (Supervisor) or Denise Erbacker
(Secretary-Treasurer).
Membership Eligibility
The Fort Cow Calf Co-op Association
provides farmers with an alternative method of financing cattle with
the intention of forming or increasing a cow herd. The livestock are
owned by the Association, but the care, feeding and marketing are the
responsibility of the individual Member. Although the
Association retains legal ownership of the cattle for security
purposes, the Member is responsible for their purchase, care, sale and
profit or loss (to the Association and Revenue Canada).
A member must be at least 18 years of age,
an Alberta resident and own or lease land. A non-refundable lifetime
Membership fee of $100 is required for the approval of the
application by the Board of Directors. Prior to approval, the
Supervisor will do an inspection of the cattle and the farmer's
facilities and feed on hand.
At the discretion of the Supervisor and
the Board of Directors, a member is eligible for a maximum loan of
$30,000 (including administration, insurance, farm visits and any
miscellaneous fees). A minimum loan to be utilized by a member will be
$10,000 worth of cattle, or less, at the discretion of the Supervisor.
A family unit, with the approval of the Board, may be eligible for
$150,000. Membership in the Fort Cow Calf Co-op Association is a
privilege, not a right, therefore applications may be rejected without
having to provide a reason.
