Cattle Information

Branding
All Fort Cow Calf Co-op Association cattle
must be branded with the Lazy F over Bar which is the Association's brand
and an identifying number which must be obtained from the Supervisor along
with the location of the brand. The Supervisor will inspect all cattle to
ensure cattle are of good quality and that they are branded prior to being
put on contract. No cattle will be put on contract until they are branded. Each year, all offspring from financed
Association cattle must be branded with the Association brand before June
15th of that year. Offspring not branded by June 15th of that year will
have a $10 per head late branding penalty charged to the Association
member on contract. Repeat offenders will be charged $10 per head per
month until the offspring are branded or the annual payment is made.
Selling Cattle
Although members decide when and where
to sell cattle, they must notify the Supervisor two days in advance
of their plans. All proceeds from the sale of Association cows/culls
and the offspring must come to the Association (in the name of the
Association in account with the member). Once the required payment
is made and administration, insurance, farm visits, miscellaneous
charges etc. are paid from the proceeds, then all surplus funds from
the sale will be paid to the member.
The Association will issue surplus funds
to the member as soon as possible and will not hold them so as the
member can defer proceeds to him/her that year. Failure to turn
over all funds immediately from the sale of any Association cattle
will result in suspension of membership privileges at the discretion
of the Board.
Culls
A member may, with the approval of the
Supervisor and the Board of Directors, replace any culled cattle if
they are of equal contract value. The member may sell the culls and
have the funds returned to him after the replacement animals are
branded and inspected by the Supervisor.
When a member sells culls from his/her
contract, all funds will be applied directly to the principal amount
of his/her loan if the cattle are not replaced.
Manifesting Cattle
All cattle carrying the Association
brand must be manifested to the Fort Cow Calf Co-op Association in
account with the member and all proceeds from any sale must be
forwarded to the Association immediately. Members who attempt to
sell cattle in their own name will have all other Association cattle
removed and sold by the Association and will be suspended from
Association privileges at the discretion of the board.
Cattle Feeding
A member may have his cows fed and
calved at a place other than his own at the discretion of the
Supervisor and the Board of Directors and if the member and the
"feeder" have a custom feeding agreement which is on file with the
Association.
Insurance and Stress
Cattle must not be used for rodeo
purposes or any other purpose that may cause unwarranted stress.
The Supervisor may reject questionable cattle, although a member may
bring his case before the Board of Directors. The ruling of the
Board of Directors shall be final.
All cattle on contract will carry a
mandatory insurance at the expense of the member.
A member must notify the
Secretary-Treasurer and the Supervisor of the Fort Cow Calf Co-op
Association immediately of any death losses or missing cattle
regardless of if insurance is applicable. A member must have
a Veterinarian inspect the dead carcass and issue a certificate.
Inspection
New members of the Fort Cow Calf Co-op
Association will have Association cattle inspected up to four times
a year at a cost to the member of $30 per visit. Existing members
will have their cattle on contract with the Association inspected
twice a year by the Supervisor and/or by a Director(s) of the
Association.
